WACK News synthesis · Published 6 October 2026 · 7 AM edition

Legislation is being prepared for three new boroughs and city status for Chaguanas. The Prime Minister’s proposed changes would expand the municipal system.

The proposal would increase the number of municipal corporations from 14 to 17. It also includes borough status for Sangre Grande and changes to several municipal boundaries. The Prime Minister says the existing boundaries have not kept pace with population growth and development. Details are expected during parliamentary debate; the measures remain proposals.
