The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has DESTROYED seized narcotics valued by Commissioner Allister Guevarro at about one point six eight billion dollars. The drugs were burned at the Caroni Cremation Site. They included cocaine, marijuana, heroin and ecstasy.

The Tobago House of Assembly has APPROVED a motion to modernise its financial rules. Finance Secretary Petal-Ann Roberts says the changes will clarify spending authority and improve reporting. Further approvals are required before the rules take effect.

Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro says mobile police units are supporting patrols and operations. He cited an operation in Tarouba and said the service will keep assessing the units and adjust their use where needed.

In regional news, the United Nations Security Council has RENEWED the mandate of Haiti’s Gang Suppression Force. Twelve members voted in favour, none opposed and three abstained. Haiti is calling for the personnel and equipment needed for full deployment.

In international news, UNICEF says four in five households in Lebanon struggle to afford basic necessities. Its findings show children going to bed hungry in at least one in five households. The agency is calling for sustained support for children’s health and education.

In sport. Los Angeles Olympic organisers have announced a torch relay through all fifty American states. The United States route will start in Atlanta after the flame is lit in Olympia, Greece. The full route is still to be announced.
