Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath has acknowledged difficulties being experienced by water customers and says WASA is preparing for potential supply challenges. He spoke outside Parliament before its sitting on Friday, 11 September.

Padarath also said Government was moving forward with plans for three desalination plants. The first is expected to come into operation in the first quarter of 2027.

That timetable describes a planned addition to the water supply. It does not mean a new plant is already operating or that current service difficulties have been resolved. The update places immediate customer concerns alongside the Government’s longer-term plans for additional production.
