Tobago would receive two constitutionally guaranteed Senate seats under a proposal announced by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on 13 October. The Government plans to introduce legislation in Parliament to make the change.

The proposed seats would be drawn from the nine Independent Senators appointed at the President’s discretion. The Prime Minister outlined the plan at the opening of the new East Terminal at A. N. R. Robinson International Airport. Tobago already has two guaranteed elected seats in the House of Representatives. The announced Senate proposal has not been presented here as an enacted change.
