Prison officers’ union raises questions over overtime payments

The Prison Officers Association is calling for greater accountability in overtime payments and for outstanding arrears to be handled fairly. General secretary Lester Logie says the union has received reports of inconsistent payment decisions and raises questions about how some additional hours were verified.

Logie says the union met with the Chief Personnel Officer and the prison administration to clarify aspects of an overtime agreement. He supports recording and checking actual hours worked, but says people working the same shifts should not be treated differently without justification.

He also alleges that certain overtime payments and arrears have lacked adequate documentation, and that some officers have struggled to receive money for duties performed years ago. The claims have not been independently established, and they do not amount to a finding of fraud or misconduct.

Logie is seeking stronger record-keeping, clearer accountability and equitable treatment. The Prison Service’s response to the specific allegations was not independently confirmed during the early-morning review.
