Copper cable worth more than TT$20 million may have been destroyed in the fire at TSTT’s Laventille work centre on Saturday 24 October, according to a preliminary police estimate. The value remains subject to formal confirmation.

Police are investigating suspected arson. In their Sunday statement, they said three people were assisting enquiries and investigators had requested CCTV footage from nearby areas. Assisting enquiries does not establish criminal responsibility.

The Fire Service brought the blaze under control on Sunday morning. Police said a firefighter was taken to hospital with superficial burns and smoke inhalation. The cause and full extent of the damage remain under investigation.
