Cabinet has approved a National Reliance Policy for Medicines intended to accelerate drug registration, Health Minister Dr Lackram Bodoe said during the 2027 Budget debate. The policy forms part of the Government’s response to shortages in public healthcare.

Bodoe also outlined plans for a central warehouse for medical supplies and an updated National Oncology Formulary to guide purchases of cancer medicines. A separate patient feedback system and checks on hospital diagnostic equipment are planned.

These measures describe intended improvements. The announcement does not establish that medicine shortages have been resolved.
