Old criminal cases prioritised in court backlog effort – Wack.TV

Criminal cases that have remained unresolved for 15 to 20 years are receiving priority as the Judiciary works to reduce its backlog, Chief Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh says.

Closer monitoring and facility improvements form part of the effort. Projects include courts in San Fernando and Tobago, and virtual access courtrooms at the Arouca prisons.

The Chief Justice wants criminal cases resolved within one to three years. He described an ambition for the system, not a result already achieved or a binding deadline.
