Hot Spell Alert takes effect across Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago’s Yellow Level Hot Spell Alert took effect at 2 p.m. on Thursday, 24 September, and is scheduled to remain in place until 4 p.m. on 31 October. The Meteorological Service issued it on 23 September.

The alert warns of episodes with daytime temperatures around 34°C or higher in Trinidad and 33°C or higher in Tobago. Depending on humidity, wind and location, conditions may feel like 34°C to 44°C. That is a heat-index range, not a forecast air temperature of 44°C.

The service advises precautions particularly between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., including hydration and avoiding prolonged heat exposure. Older people, children, outdoor workers and people with certain health conditions need particular care. Occasional rain may bring temporary relief without ending the wider heat risk.
