A proposed charge of five cents per kilowatt-hour would apply to residential consumption above 3,000 kilowatt-hours per billing period. Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath says fewer than ten per cent of residential customers would be affected.

The 2027 Budget sets 1 January 2027 as the proposed start date. Padarath also says the electricity bill rebate programme needs a value-for-money review, but no decision has been made to end it.

Discussions with NGC over T&TEC’s debt continue. Those remarks did not announce a new general rate increase.
