Public servants attached to the Unemployment Relief Programme have been assigned to technical sections in the Local Government Ministry as the Government winds down the programme, Minister Khadijah Ameen says.

Ameen told the Standing Finance Committee that the staff would be absorbed into other ministry units and corporations. They remain paid under the URP budget heading during the transition.

Staff are also organising employment records that former URP workers need when applying for National Insurance pensions. The ministry plans to digitise the records. Ameen said the lease for the El Socorro headquarters still costs TT$213,000 a month.
