Elective surgery remains suspended at Scarborough General Hospital while crews repair the cooling system serving its operating theatres. The Tobago Regional Health Authority says emergency operations are being prioritised according to clinical need and suitable theatre conditions. In a statement on Thursday, the authority says repairs began on September twenty-fifth and are scheduled to continue through October eighteenth. Cooling has been partly restored, with further work and testing continuing.

A bill to make Chaguanas a city and establish four boroughs has passed the House of Representatives. The proposed boroughs are Barataria, Couva, Saint Augustine and Sangre Grande. The Municipal Corporations Amendment Bill passed on Wednesday, with twenty-seven votes for and eleven against. The House approved amendments, but its vote does not put the changes into force.

Efforts to address discoloured water in parts of Trinidad are continuing. Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath said on Thursday that he was working with WASA to reduce the impact on households. The minister defended the authority’s response, saying similar incidents had occurred before. He did not give a completion date in that statement.
