The Senate has passed the bill to raise age limits for alcohol, tobacco, cannabis and gambling. The vote was fifteen to twelve, with three abstentions, after amendments in committee. The new restrictions are not yet in force.

The Special Operations Act is now in force. President Christine Kangaloo's proclamation brought all sections into operation on October sixth. It provides for police operations with military support when requested, and requires training in human rights and the use of force.

Desalcott is expected to resume operations on Thursday, October eighth, after mechanical problems delayed its return from maintenance. Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath says additional water trucks have been deployed to affected areas. The restart remains a forecast.

Government is continuing talks with Nutrien despite its decision to shut the Point Lisas nitrogen operation indefinitely. Energy Minister Roodal Moonilal says possible investment options are being examined. No agreement to restart or sell the plant has been announced.

In regional news, flooding and landslides have damaged homes and blocked roads in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Emergency officials say the October sixth flooding also affected two health facilities. Residents near rivers and unstable slopes are being urged to remain cautious.

In sport, India beat West Indies by eight wickets in the first Twenty-twenty international in Lucknow. West Indies made one hundred and seventy-one. India reached one hundred and seventy-two for two, with thirty-two balls remaining.

That's a look at WACK Headline News.
