One hundred and ten Trinidad and Tobago nationals have been affected by Friday's earthquake in Panama, the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs says. The magnitude seven-point-seven quake struck on Friday afternoon. The ministry says the embassy in Panama City is monitoring conditions with local emergency authorities. Nationals needing assistance, and people concerned about relatives there, are urged to contact the embassy.

Proman Trinidad says it has reduced its local workforce as part of a global restructuring. The company says affected employees have been notified and support services remain available for those leaving and those staying with the business.

A planned trade union march through Port of Spain has moved from October sixteenth to October twenty-third. National Trade Union Centre general secretary Michael Annisette says union leaders agreed to postpone it out of respect for the Mighty Sparrow, whose funeral is scheduled for October sixteenth.

Heavy showers or thunderstorms are possible today. The Meteorological Service puts the chance at forty to sixty per cent for Trinidad, Tobago and the rest of the Lesser Antilles. Gusty winds are likely in heavier showers, and street or flash flooding may occur in prone areas.
