Municipal reform bill passes House, 27–11 – Wack.TV

WACK News synthesis · Published 8 October 2026 · 7 AM edition

The House passed the municipal reform bill by 27 votes to 11 on 7 October. Proposed city and borough changes are not yet in force.

The bill would establish Chaguanas as a city and the boroughs of Barataria, Couva, St Augustine and Sangre Grande. Parliament’s official record lists approval with amendments at committee stage and final passage in the House. The distinction matters: the House vote alone does not bring the proposed arrangements into force.
