Haiti urges stronger security support ahead of planned elections

Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé called for stronger security support and a return to normal public services at a United Nations meeting reported on 24 September. He said security gains must be followed by schools, justice institutions and economic activity.

UN officials reported 1,083 personnel deployed in the Gang Suppression Force, against 5,500 authorised. Participants supported extending the force’s mandate, but the report does not announce a new Security Council decision.

UN News says about 6.4 million people need humanitarian assistance and nearly 1.5 million have been displaced. General elections are scheduled for 13 December 2026; that remains a planned date, not evidence that voting has occurred or that the security crisis has been resolved.
