Attorney General John Jeremie outlined the Government’s proposed Special Operations Bill during parliamentary debate on Friday, 18 September. The measures seek to strengthen the response to serious crime through additional policing powers in designated areas.

The proposals include searches without warrants where the specified reasonable-suspicion conditions are met, as well as cordons and curfews. Jeremie said the framework would include accountability provisions. These were proposed powers discussed in the debate; this report does not describe them as already in force.
